Description

This Taco French Bread Pizza combines the hearty flavors of seasoned ground beef and refried beans with melty cheese and fresh toppings on a crusty French bread base. Ready in just 30 minutes, it’s a perfect crowd-pleaser for a quick dinner or casual gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 loaf French bread

Meat & Beans

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning mix
  • 1 can (16 ounces) refried beans

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of Colby and Monterey Jack cheese)
  • 1 small tomato, diced
  • 1 can (4 ounces) sliced black olives
  • 2 green onions, sliced thin

Instructions

  1. Preheat and cook beef: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain off any excess grease. Add the taco seasoning mix along with the amount of water recommended on the seasoning package. Simmer the beef mixture for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld, then remove the skillet from heat.
  2. Prepare French bread: Slice the French bread loaf in half lengthwise to create two long halves. Place both halves cut side up on a large greased cookie sheet to prevent sticking.
  3. Warm and spread beans: Transfer the refried beans to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until the beans are thoroughly warmed. Spread the warm beans evenly over the cut sides of both French bread halves.
  4. Assemble toppings: Distribute the seasoned ground beef mixture evenly over the refried bean layer. Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously on top, followed by the diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, and thinly sliced green onions for added flavor and freshness.
  5. Bake the pizza: Place the assembled bread halves in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes or until the cheese has melted completely, is bubbly, and starting to turn golden.
  6. Rest and serve: Remove the French bread pizzas from the oven and let them stand for about 5 minutes to cool slightly and set. Slice into portions and serve warm to enjoy the perfect blend of taco-inspired flavors on a crispy bread base.

Notes

  • You can substitute the cheddar cheese with a Mexican blend cheese for more authentic flavor.
  • For a spicier kick, add jalapeño slices or hot sauce before baking.
  • Use lean ground turkey instead of beef for a lighter option.
  • Refried beans can be heated on the stovetop if you prefer not to use a microwave.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven to preserve crispiness.
