Description

This Red Velvet Trifle is a stunning layered dessert combining moist red velvet cake with a rich, creamy cream cheese filling, complemented by fresh blueberries and strawberries. Perfect for gatherings, this easy-to-make trifle offers a delightful mix of textures and flavors, served chilled for a refreshing treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake

  • 1 box Red Velvet cake mix (plus eggs, oil, and water as required by the package)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 2 blocks (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream

Fruit Topping

  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 1 cup strawberries, halved

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Follow the package directions to prepare and bake the red velvet cake batter in two 9-inch round cake pans. Be sure to grease the pans thoroughly to enable easy removal. After baking, allow the cakes to cool completely to room temperature.
  2. Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and granulated sugar together using an electric hand mixer until smooth. Add vanilla extract and heavy whipping cream, continuing to beat until the mixture is thickened, creamy, and fully combined.
  3. Assemble the First Layer: Place one cooled cake layer at the bottom of a large trifle dish. Evenly spread half of the cream cheese filling over the cake layer. Then, arrange blueberries in a single layer on top of the filling.
  4. Finish the Trifle: Place the second cake layer on top of the blueberries. Spread the remaining cream cheese filling over this top cake layer. Garnish the surface with halved strawberries and a few more blueberries for a colorful finish.
  5. Chill and Serve: Cover the assembled trifle and chill it in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened before mixing to avoid lumps.
  • You can substitute fresh raspberries or blackberries for blueberries if preferred.
  • For a more decorative presentation, garnish the top with a few mint leaves.
  • Chilling the trifle for longer (up to 4 hours) enhances flavor melding and texture.
  • If desired, use homemade red velvet cake instead of the boxed mix for a more personalized touch.
