- 2 ounces smooth, flavorful spirit (e.g., tequila or blanco tequila)
- 1 ounce Cointreau or triple sec
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce passion fruit purée
- Pulp of half a passion fruit
- Ice (as needed)
Optional Ingredients
- ½ ounce agave syrup (1 tablespoon) for extra sweetness
- ½ ounce mezcal (1 tablespoon) for smoky flavor
For Rimming
- Lime wedge
- Chili salt, flaky sea salt, or tajÃn
Garnish
- Passion fruit slice
- Edible flower (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Glass Rim: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the cocktail glass, then dip the rim into chili salt, flaky sea salt, or tajÃn to coat. Set the glass aside to allow the rim to set.
- Mix the Cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add 2 ounces of your chosen smooth, flavorful spirit, 1 ounce of Cointreau or triple sec, 1 ounce of fresh lime juice, 1 ounce of passion fruit purée, and if desired, ½ ounce agave syrup and ½ ounce mezcal for sweetness and smoky notes respectively.
- Shake Well: Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker becomes very cold, usually about 15-20 seconds, thoroughly chilling and mixing the ingredients.
- Assemble the Drink: Fill the rimmed glass with fresh ice and add the pulp from half a passion fruit. Then strain the cocktail mixture from the shaker into the glass over the ice and passion fruit pulp.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish the drink with a slice of passion fruit and, if desired, an edible flower for an elegant touch. Serve immediately to enjoy the refreshing flavors at their best.
Notes
- You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of agave syrup or omitting it entirely for a tarter cocktail.
- Using mezcal adds a smoky depth but is optional depending on your flavor preference.
- Rimming the glass with chili salt or tajÃn adds a spicy contrast that enhances the margarita’s tropical flavors.
- Fresh passion fruit pulp adds texture and authenticity to the drink.
- This recipe makes one 1 serving cocktail.
