Description

These Irish pub burgers are hearty, flavorful sandwiches featuring juicy ground beef patties seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, topped with melted Irish cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and caramelized onions, all served on toasted buns. Perfect for a satisfying pub-style meal at home.

Ingredients

Scale

Burgers

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1 cup shredded Irish cheddar cheese (about 100 g)

Toppings

  • 4 slices crispy bacon
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Buns

  • 4 burger buns, preferably toasted

Instructions

  1. Prepare burger patties: Gently break apart the ground beef without overworking it to keep the patties tender and juicy.
  2. Shape patties: Divide the beef into four equal portions and shape them into thick patties, making a slight indentation in the center to help them cook evenly.
  3. Season and rest: Season each patty with Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and salt, then let them rest for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Cook patties: Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on one side until nicely browned. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side.
  5. Melt cheese: In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of shredded Irish cheddar cheese on each patty to melt thoroughly.
  6. Assemble burgers: Place the cheesy patties on the bottom halves of the toasted buns, top with crispy bacon and caramelized onions, then cover with the bun tops.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately while warm, alongside your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Do not overwork the ground beef to avoid dense burgers.
  • Letting the patties rest after seasoning helps deepen the flavor.
  • Caramelized onions can be prepared by slowly sautéing onions with garlic in a pan over low heat until golden and sweet.
  • Use Irish cheddar for authentic flavor; however, sharp cheddar can be a substitute.
  • Toast the buns to add texture and prevent sogginess.
