Description

Enjoy a refreshing and easy-to-make peach tea that’s perfect for hot summer days. This homemade peach tea combines the natural sweetness of ripe peaches with robust black tea and a hint of lemon for a perfectly balanced, thirst-quenching beverage. Ideal for gatherings or a relaxing treat, this recipe yields a flavorful iced tea that can be prepared ahead and customized to your desired sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale

Peach Syrup

  • 4 ripe peaches, pitted and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 8 cups water, divided

Tea

  • 6 black tea bags (or 6 teaspoons loose leaf black tea)
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Ice, for serving

Optional Garnishes

  • Peach slices
  • Mint sprigs
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare Peach Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced peaches and granulated sugar, gently stirring to coat the peaches evenly with sugar. Allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to macerate and release juices.
  2. Simmer Peach Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent sugar from burning. Continue simmering for 10-15 minutes until the peaches become very soft and the mixture thickens slightly into a syrup.
  3. Mash and Strain: Use a potato masher or spoon to gently mash the peaches. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a heat-proof bowl, pressing the solids to extract as much syrup as possible. Discard or save the solids for another use. Allow the peach syrup to cool completely. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator if not using immediately.
  4. Brew Black Tea: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Place tea bags or loose leaf tea in a heat-proof pitcher or large teapot, then pour the boiling water over them. Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes depending on how strong you want it.
  5. Cool Brewed Tea: Remove the tea bags or infuser, squeezing gently to extract extra flavor. Let the tea cool to room temperature or refrigerate briefly to speed up the process.
  6. Combine Tea and Syrup: In a large pitcher, mix the cooled black tea with the cooled peach syrup. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and pour in the remaining 4 cups of cold water. Stir well to combine.
  7. Adjust Flavor: Taste the peach tea and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more lemon juice if too sweet or more peach syrup or sugar if not sweet enough.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate the peach tea for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld beautifully.
  9. Serve: Fill glasses with ice and pour the chilled peach tea over. Garnish with peach slices, mint sprigs, and lemon wedges if desired and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can adjust the sugar amount in the peach syrup to suit your sweetness preference.
  • Use fresh, ripe peaches for the best natural flavor and sweetness.
  • The peach solids strained out of the syrup can be used in smoothies, desserts, or as a topping for yogurt.
  • Store leftover peach syrup in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For a stronger tea flavor, steep the tea longer but avoid over-steeping to prevent bitterness.
  • Try using different types of tea like green or black tea, depending on your taste preference.
