Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, salsa, and taco seasoning. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are fully incorporated and smooth.
- Spread the mixture: Evenly spread the cream cheese mixture over each flour tortilla, leaving a small border around the edges to make rolling easier.
- Roll the tortillas: Starting from the edge with the most filling, roll each tortilla tightly like a jelly roll, pressing gently to ensure the edges seal with the cream cheese mixture and prevent unrolling.
- Chill the rolls: Wrap each rolled tortilla tightly in plastic wrap or secure with toothpicks. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the filling to firm up, or preferably overnight for best results.
- Slice into pinwheels: After chilling, use a sharp knife to slice each roll into 1/2 to 1-inch thick pinwheels for bite-sized servings.
- Serve: Arrange the pinwheels neatly on a platter and serve immediately. Optionally, accompany with extra salsa, sour cream, or your preferred dipping sauces for added flavor.
Notes
- For a heartier appetizer, add cooked ground beef or shredded chicken into the cream cheese mixture before spreading.
- Customize pinwheels with chopped green onions, black beans, or bell peppers for extra texture and flavor.
- Chilling the rolls makes slicing easier and helps the pinwheels hold their shape.
- These roll ups can be made a day ahead and refrigerated, making them ideal for entertaining.
- Use gluten-free tortillas to make this recipe gluten free if desired.
