Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- 1 small white onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 jar Cheese Whiz
Tortilla and Frying
- 10 small corn tortillas
- Vegetable oil for frying (about ½ to 1 cup)
Toppings
- Taco toppings such as lettuce, salsa, sour cream, etc.
Instructions
- Heat the Oil: Pour about half to one cup of vegetable oil into a small skillet or deep fryer. Heat it over medium-low heat until hot but not smoking, preparing for frying the tortillas.
- Cook the Beef and Onion: In a large skillet, place the ground beef and chopped onion. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic salt. Cook over medium-high heat, crumbling the beef as it cooks. Continue until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink, then drain excess grease.
- Fry the Tortillas: Fry each corn tortilla in the hot oil for about 30 seconds on each side until they are slightly crispy but still pliable. Remove and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
- Assemble the Tacos: Spread a generous amount of Cheese Whiz on each fried tortilla. Top with the cooked ground beef mixture and add your preferred taco toppings such as lettuce, salsa, and sour cream.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the assembled tacos immediately while warm and enjoy the flavorful combination of crispy tortillas, savory beef, and creamy cheese.
Notes
- Drain grease thoroughly from the cooked beef to reduce excess fat in the tacos.
- Frying the tortillas briefly ensures a crispy texture that holds the toppings well without being too oily.
- Feel free to substitute Cheese Whiz with shredded cheese for a fresher option.
- Adjust seasoning to taste; you can add chili powder or cumin for extra spice.
- Use fresh toppings to add texture and freshness to the tacos.
