Description

Dad’s Tacos is a simple and delicious homemade taco recipe featuring seasoned ground beef, fried corn tortillas, and creamy Cheese Whiz. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal that serves the whole family, these tacos can be customized with your favorite toppings like lettuce, salsa, and sour cream.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 small white onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 jar Cheese Whiz

Tortilla and Frying

  • 10 small corn tortillas
  • Vegetable oil for frying (about ½ to 1 cup)

Toppings

  • Taco toppings such as lettuce, salsa, sour cream, etc.

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: Pour about half to one cup of vegetable oil into a small skillet or deep fryer. Heat it over medium-low heat until hot but not smoking, preparing for frying the tortillas.
  2. Cook the Beef and Onion: In a large skillet, place the ground beef and chopped onion. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic salt. Cook over medium-high heat, crumbling the beef as it cooks. Continue until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink, then drain excess grease.
  3. Fry the Tortillas: Fry each corn tortilla in the hot oil for about 30 seconds on each side until they are slightly crispy but still pliable. Remove and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  4. Assemble the Tacos: Spread a generous amount of Cheese Whiz on each fried tortilla. Top with the cooked ground beef mixture and add your preferred taco toppings such as lettuce, salsa, and sour cream.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the assembled tacos immediately while warm and enjoy the flavorful combination of crispy tortillas, savory beef, and creamy cheese.

Notes

  • Drain grease thoroughly from the cooked beef to reduce excess fat in the tacos.
  • Frying the tortillas briefly ensures a crispy texture that holds the toppings well without being too oily.
  • Feel free to substitute Cheese Whiz with shredded cheese for a fresher option.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste; you can add chili powder or cumin for extra spice.
  • Use fresh toppings to add texture and freshness to the tacos.
