Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (Can use avocado oil, butter, or ghee.)
- 2 medium Onions (Use yellow or red onions for best results.)
- 2 cloves Garlic (Minced for even distribution.)
Dip Ingredients
- 1 cup Non-Fat Greek Yogurt (Regular yogurt, cottage cheese, or half cream cheese can work.)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce (Coconut aminos or low sodium soy sauce as substitution.)
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 0.5 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 tablespoon Dried Parsley (Can substitute with fresh parsley if available.)
- 0.5 teaspoon Garlic Powder (Can omit if using fresh garlic only.)
Instructions
- Heat Oil: In a sauté pan, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil over low heat to gently warm the oil without burning it.
- Caramelize Onions: Add sliced onions and minced garlic to the pan. Cook slowly for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions turn golden brown and develop a sweet flavor.
- Cool Onions: Remove the pan from heat and allow the caramelized onions and garlic to cool for 5-10 minutes to avoid curdling the yogurt in the next step.
- Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled onions and garlic with 1 cup of non-fat Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, 0.5 teaspoon black pepper, 1 tablespoon dried parsley, and 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder. Mix thoroughly until well blended.
- Serve & Enjoy: Serve the onion dip immediately with tortilla chips, pita bread, or fresh vegetables as a healthy snack or appetizer.
Notes
- You can substitute olive oil with avocado oil, butter, or ghee depending on your preference.
- Yellow or red onions work best for a balanced sweetness when caramelized.
- Use coconut aminos or low sodium soy sauce as a substitution for Worcestershire sauce for a gluten-free or soy-free option.
- If using fresh garlic, you can omit the garlic powder.
- This dip can be refrigerated for up to 3 days; stir well before serving.
