Description

This Turkey Sweet Potato Skillet is a wholesome and flavorful one-pan meal combining lean ground turkey with tender sweet potatoes and fresh vegetables. Perfect for a quick and nutritious dinner, it features simple spices and a balance of protein and carbs, cooked in just 30 minutes on the stovetop.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Spices and Oil

  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Cook the turkey: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground turkey and cook it while crumbling with a spoon, until the meat is browned and fully cooked through.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften and become fragrant.
  3. Add sweet potatoes and seasonings: Stir in the diced sweet potatoes along with cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix everything well to evenly distribute the flavors.
  4. Cover and cook: Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender and the ingredients are well combined.
  5. Serve: Remove the skillet from heat and serve the dish hot. Optionally garnish with chopped fresh herbs or a sprinkle of cheese for added flavor.

Notes

  • You can substitute bell pepper with other vegetables like zucchini or carrots.
  • For extra spice, add a pinch of chili powder or cayenne pepper.
  • Leftovers store well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Use ground chicken or turkey sausage as a variation for the protein.
  • Adding a handful of spinach at the end boosts nutrition and color.
