Scale
Bread and Condiments
- 8 slices sandwich bread or sourdough
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise or Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Filling
- 8 oz sliced cooked turkey breast
- 4 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese
- 1 small tomato, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: baby spinach or arugula for extra greens
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Spread mayonnaise or Dijon mustard evenly on one side of each bread slice to add flavor and moisture.
- Assemble the Sandwich: On 4 slices of bread, layer the turkey breast slices, seasoned tomato slices with a pinch of salt and pepper, cheese slices, and optional baby spinach or arugula. Cover with the remaining bread slices, mayo side down.
- Heat the Skillet: Place a skillet or griddle over medium heat and allow it to warm up, which ensures even toasting for your sandwiches.
- Butter the Bread: Spread the softened butter on the outside (top and bottom) of each assembled sandwich. This butter layer will help achieve a golden, crispy crust.
- Cook the Sandwiches: Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula to meld the ingredients and melt the cheese, until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the heat, slice each in half for easy eating, and serve hot for the best flavor and texture experience.
Notes
- Add crispy bacon or avocado slices for extra flavor and texture.
- Try swapping in different cheeses like provolone or pepper jack for varied taste profiles.
- This recipe works great with leftover Thanksgiving turkey to make a quick meal.
