Description

This Spaghetti Stuffed Garlic Bread combines two classic comfort foods into one indulgent dish. Hollowed-out Italian bread is toasted with garlic butter, then filled with a savory mixture of ground beef, sausage, tomato sauce, and perfectly cooked spaghetti. Topped with Parmesan and Mozzarella cheese, then baked until golden and melty, this recipe is perfect for a family dinner or sharing with friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Toppings

  • 1 (16 ounce) Italian bread loaf
  • Butter, for brushing
  • Garlic powder, for sprinkling
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 1/3 cup Mozzarella cheese (divided)

Meat Sauce and Pasta

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 16 ounce tomato sauce
  • 6 ounce tomato paste
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 7 ounce uncooked spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning, generous
  • 1 teaspoon salt plus a pinch
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Remaining 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • Remaining 1/3 cup Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375° Fahrenheit to prepare for toasting the bread and baking the stuffed loaves.
  2. Cook Spaghetti: Boil spaghetti in a large saucepan according to package directions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.
  3. Prepare Meat Sauce: While the pasta cooks, brown ground beef and sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion as the meat browns. Once browned, drain excess fat. Return the meat and onion to the skillet and add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and simmer for 5 to 8 minutes. Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet, mix thoroughly, and remove from heat.
  4. Prepare Bread: Slice the Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise. Use a bread knife to hollow out the center of each half, removing excess bread to create large cavities. Brush the inside and sides of the hollowed bread with butter and sprinkle with garlic powder. Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven until lightly crisped.
  5. Stuff Bread: Remove the toasted bread from the oven and spoon the spaghetti and meat sauce mixture evenly into the hollowed-out halves, filling them completely. Divide the Parmesan and Mozzarella cheeses between the two loaf halves, sprinkling the cheese on top of the filling.
  6. Bake Stuffed Bread: Return the stuffed bread halves to the oven and bake at 375° Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheeses melt and turn golden brown.
  7. Serve: Remove the stuffed bread from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Gently slice with a bread knife and serve warm.

Notes

  • The recipe yields extra spaghetti and sauce, ideal for a side or next-day meal.
  • For a spicier variation, add red pepper flakes to the meat sauce.
  • Use freshly grated cheeses for better melting and flavor.
  • Leftover stuffed bread can be wrapped and refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven.
  • To save time, you can prepare the meat sauce a day in advance and assemble before baking.
