Ingredients
Scale
Sausage and Meat
- 1 pound smoked sausage, cut into rounds
Vegetables
- 1.5 pounds baby potatoes, each sliced into quarters
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- Freshly chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
Fats and Oils
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- ½ teaspoon salt
Dairy
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Brown Sausage: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the smoked sausage rounds and cook them for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally until they start to caramelize and develop a rich, brown crust. Once browned, remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook Potatoes: In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of salted butter along with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the quartered baby potatoes to the skillet and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are fork-tender and slightly golden.
- Add Spices and Broccoli: Stir in the minced garlic, Cajun seasoning, paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, and salt. Cook the mixture for about 1 minute until the spices are aromatic. Then, add the fresh broccoli florets and cook for an additional 5 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli turns a deeper green and softens but still has a bit of crunch.
- Melt Cheese: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and spread everything out evenly. Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Cover the pan with a lid and let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the cheese to melt thoroughly.
- Serve: Once the cheese is melted, garnish the skillet with freshly chopped parsley if desired. Serve immediately while warm as a comforting and flavorful one-pan meal.
Notes
- Use smoked sausage for the best flavor, but you can substitute with kielbasa or another smoked sausage variety.
- To make it spicier, increase the crushed red pepper flakes according to your taste.
- You can substitute baby potatoes with regular potatoes cut into similar-sized pieces, but cooking time may increase slightly.
- Fresh broccoli is preferred, but frozen broccoli florets can be used; adjust cooking time accordingly.
- Covering the skillet to melt the cheese helps achieve a gooey, evenly melted topping.
- This dish can be easily doubled for a larger crowd using a larger skillet or pan.
