Description

Salted Honeycrisp Fritters offer a delightful blend of sweet and salted flavors with tender apple pieces enveloped in a spiced, fluffy batter and fried to golden perfection. These crisp-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside fritters are perfect for a comforting dessert or a special treat during the fall season.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit

  • 2 large Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying and Topping

  • Oil for frying (about 2 inches depth)
  • Flaky sea salt for topping
  • Powdered sugar or honey drizzle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare apples: Toss the peeled, cored, and diced apples with lemon juice in a small bowl to prevent browning and set aside.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs lightly, then mix in the whole milk and vanilla extract to form a smooth mixture.
  4. Make the batter: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Fold in the diced apples so they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  5. Heat oil: Pour about 2 inches of oil into a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot and heat over medium heat until the temperature reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry fritters: Drop heaping tablespoons of batter carefully into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry each fritter for 2–3 minutes per side or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Drain and season: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still warm, sprinkle the fritters lightly with flaky sea salt for a subtle salty contrast.
  8. Serve: Optionally, dust the fritters with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey for extra sweetness. Serve warm and enjoy immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra texture, add a tablespoon of cornmeal to the batter for a slight crunch.
  • These fritters are best enjoyed the day they’re made to maintain crispiness.
  • To reheat and regain crispiness, warm them gently in a toaster oven for a few minutes.
