  • 2 bags (4.5 ounces each) Werther’s soft caramels, divided
  • 1 cup salted butter

Marshmallow and Cereal

  • 7 ½ cups mini marshmallows, divided
  • 7 cups Rice Krispies cereal

  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon sea salt


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside to ensure easy removal of the treats later.
  2. Melt Main Caramels: Unwrap all the caramels, reserving 10 to use later. Place the remaining caramels in a medium microwave-safe bowl and melt in 30-second increments, stirring well after each interval until fully melted. Set this aside to cool slightly.
  3. Melt Butter and Combine: In a large pot over medium heat, melt the salted butter. Remove from heat once melted, then stir in 5 1/2 cups of the mini marshmallows and the melted caramel mixture. Stir until mostly combined; it’s fine if the mixture isn’t completely smooth.
  4. Add Cereal and Remaining Marshmallows: Stir in the Rice Krispies cereal and 1/2 teaspoon sea salt until almost fully mixed. Then fold in the remaining mini marshmallows gently until combined. Immediately transfer the mixture to the prepared pan, spreading it evenly and pressing it down gently to fit the pan.
  5. Drizzle Additional Caramel and Salt: Melt the reserved 10 caramels in a microwave-safe bowl. Drizzle the melted caramel evenly over the top of the treats in the pan. Sprinkle the additional 1/2 teaspoon sea salt evenly over the top if desired.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the treats to cool completely. Once set, gently lift the treats using the parchment paper edges. Cut into squares and serve. Enjoy your perfect balance of sweet and salty crispy treats!
