Description

Enjoy these flavorful Salmon Burgers with a fresh and zesty Basil Mayo, perfect for a healthy and gourmet fish burger experience. Made with finely chopped salmon, herbs, and spices, these patties are pan-cooked to golden perfection and served on toasted buns with crisp lettuce and juicy tomato slices.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salmon Burgers

  • 1½ pounds skinless salmon fillets (finely chopped)
  • ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg (lightly beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons red onion (finely minced)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • 4 burger buns
  • lettuce and tomato slices for serving

For the Basil Mayo

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salmon Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the finely chopped salmon, panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, Dijon mustard, finely minced red onion, lemon juice, chopped fresh dill, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are well incorporated and evenly distributed.
  2. Form Patties and Chill: Shape the salmon mixture into 4 evenly sized patties. Place them on a plate or tray and refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to help the patties hold their shape during cooking.
  3. Make the Basil Mayo: While the patties chill, in a small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, chopped fresh basil leaves, lemon juice, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside to allow flavors to meld.
  4. Cook the Salmon Patties: Heat the olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the salmon patties and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until the patties are golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Toast the Buns (Optional): If desired, toast the burger buns lightly to add texture and warmth.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: Spread the prepared basil mayo on both the top and bottom halves of each bun. Add lettuce and tomato slices, place the cooked salmon patty on the bun, then cover with the top half. Serve immediately for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add avocado slices or pickled red onions to your burger.
  • You can grill the salmon patties over medium heat using a well-oiled grill pan for a smoky flavor.
  • Ensure not to overmix the salmon mixture to keep the patties tender.
  • Chilling the patties before cooking helps prevent them from falling apart.
