Ingredients
Scale
Slider Assembly
- 18 King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls (from two 12-count packages)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 to 1¼ pounds deli sliced roast beef (no more than ⅛ inch thick or sandwich sliced)
- 10 slices non-smoked provolone cheese (approximately â…› inch thick, from an 8-ounce package)
Butter Sauce
- ½ cup salted butter
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1½ tablespoons bottled barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s Original recommended)
- 1 tablespoon poppy seed
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F to prepare for baking the sliders.
- Prepare Rolls: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, separating the tops from the bottoms. Arrange all the bottom halves tightly in a 9×13 inch baking dish so they touch one another. Set the tops aside for later.
- Spread Mayonnaise: Evenly spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over the bottom rolls in the baking dish. This adds moisture and flavor to the base of the sliders.
- Add Roast Beef: Layer 1 to 2 slices of deli roast beef on each bottom roll. Fold slices as needed to fit neatly onto each roll, ensuring easy pull-apart serving later.
- Top with Cheese and Roll Tops: Distribute the 10 slices of provolone cheese evenly over the roast beef. Then place the reserved tops of the rolls on top of the cheese. Press down gently to keep the sliders together and help them heat evenly.
- Make Butter Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the salted butter. Stir in Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce just begins to boil, then remove from heat.
- Brush Sauce Over Sliders: Pour the warm butter sauce evenly over the assembled sliders in the pan. Use a pastry brush if desired to ensure the poppy seeds are spread evenly on top of the rolls.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F to heat through and meld the flavors.
- Brown and Melt Cheese: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the tops of the sliders are lightly browned and the cheese has fully melted.
Notes
- Use thinly sliced deli roast beef to ensure easy folding and layering on the rolls.
- Covering the sliders during most of the bake keeps them moist and helps the cheese melt without drying out the tops.
- The buttery poppy seed sauce can be adjusted with less barbecue sauce for a milder flavor or more mustard for added tang.
- These sliders are best served warm and fresh but can be reheated covered in foil to preserve moisture.
- For extra flavor, consider adding thin slices of red onion or pickles inside the sliders before baking.
