Description

This Peach Jalapeno Jam combines the natural sweetness of ripe peaches with the spicy kick of fresh jalapeno peppers to create a perfectly balanced sweet and spicy spread. Ideal for adding a flavorful twist to toast, cheese platters, or grilled meats, this homemade jam is thickened with powdered pectin for the ideal texture and can be made within 35 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit and Peppers

  • 4 cups fresh ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and diced
  • 2-3 fresh jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped (adjust seeds for desired heat)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Jam Base

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 package powdered pectin (about 1.75 oz)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Wash and dice the peaches, removing the pits. Finely chop the jalapenos, removing seeds if you prefer less heat. Measure out sugar, lemon juice, pectin, and water to have everything ready before cooking.
  2. Cook the Fruit and Peppers: In a heavy saucepan, combine the diced peaches, chopped jalapenos, and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, and cook for about 10 minutes to soften the fruit and meld flavors.
  3. Add Sugar and Pectin: Stir in the granulated sugar. Once the sugar dissolves completely, sprinkle the powdered pectin evenly over the mixture while stirring continuously. This helps thicken the jam and develop the perfect consistency as it cooks further.
  4. Boil and Test Consistency: Bring the jam mixture to a rapid boil and allow it to cook vigorously for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and test the set by placing a small amount of jam on a chilled plate; if it wrinkles when pushed with your finger, it is ready.
  5. Jar and Cool: Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, wiping rims clean before sealing tightly with lids. Let the jars cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate or store appropriately.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of jalapeno seeds to control the heat level of the jam.
  • Use ripe, sweet peaches for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
  • Sterilize jars properly to ensure safe preservation if you plan to store jam long term.
  • Test jam set on a chilled plate to avoid under- or over-cooking.
  • This jam pairs well with cream cheese, crackers, grilled chicken, or pork.
