Ingredients
Scale
Broccoli and Seasonings
- 1 large head broccoli, cut into small florets
- 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
Garnishes
- 1 sheet nori (seaweed), finely shredded or crushed
- Optional: sesame seeds
- Optional: red pepper flakes
- Optional: a squeeze of lemon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Toss the broccoli with oils and seasonings: In a large bowl, combine the broccoli florets with olive oil (and sesame oil if using), garlic powder, and sea salt. Toss well until every piece is evenly coated with the flavorful mixture.
- Arrange and roast the broccoli: Spread the seasoned broccoli florets in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Roast in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, flipping the broccoli halfway through to ensure even roasting and crispy edges.
- Add nori seasoning: As soon as the broccoli is out of the oven and still hot, sprinkle the finely shredded or crushed nori over the top so it sticks well to the warm florets. Gently toss to combine the flavors.
- Optional finishing touches: For added texture and brightness, sprinkle sesame seeds, red pepper flakes, or add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice before serving warm. Enjoy this versatile, crispy broccoli snack or side dish.
Notes
- To crush the nori, use scissors to finely snip it or pulse it gently in a blender.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with rice bowls or miso-glazed fish.
- For extra crispiness, ensure broccoli pieces are evenly spaced and not overcrowded on the baking sheet.
- Optional additions like sesame seeds and red pepper flakes add extra flavor and texture but can be omitted to keep it simple.
