Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 4-6 strips bacon, cooked and chopped
- 3-5 jalapenos, seeded and diced
- 2 green onions, finely sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Wrapper & Frying
- Approximately 22 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Prepare filling: In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, diced jalapenos, sliced green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined to create a spicy, creamy filling.
- Assemble egg rolls: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of the wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold the bottom corner over the filling, fold in the sides, and roll up tightly like a burrito, sealing the edges firmly with water to prevent leaking during frying.
- Repeat assembly: Repeat the filling and rolling process with remaining wrappers and filling until all are prepared.
- Heat oil: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C), ensuring enough oil depth to submerge the egg rolls for even cooking.
- Fry egg rolls: Fry the egg rolls in batches for about 2-3 minutes each, turning occasionally until golden brown and crispy. Carefully remove and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve: Serve the mini jalapeno popper egg rolls hot with your favorite dipping sauces such as ranch dressing or sweet chili sauce for added flavor.
Notes
- Adjust jalapeno quantity according to your preferred spice level.
- Ensure the wonton wrappers are sealed properly to avoid filling escaping during frying.
- Use a thermometer to maintain consistent oil temperature for crispy, non-greasy egg rolls.
- Bacon can be substituted with vegetarian bacon for a vegetarian variation, although this will alter the dish’s flavor.
- Leftover filling can be used as a dip or spread if not all wrappers are used.
