Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 lb (450g) cooked ham, finely chopped
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons sweet relish
- 1 tablespoon chopped green onions (optional)
Buns
- 12 cocktail-sized sandwich rolls or slider buns
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the finely chopped ham, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sweet relish, and chopped green onions if using. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated into a cohesive mixture.
- Slice the rolls: Using a serrated knife, carefully slice each of the sandwich rolls or slider buns in half horizontally, creating a top and bottom portion for each bite-sized sandwich.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Spoon a generous amount of the ham and cheese mixture onto the bottom half of each roll. Then place the top half of the roll on each assembled sandwich to close it.
- Arrange on baking sheet: Lay all the filled sandwiches on a baking sheet in a single layer to prepare them for baking.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the sandwiches for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the sandwich rolls turn lightly golden brown and the filling is heated through and melted.
- Serve warm: Remove the sandwiches from the oven and serve the Iowa Party Bites warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can omit green onions if you prefer a milder flavor.
- Use good quality deli ham for the best taste.
- Serve with mustard or pickles on the side for added tanginess.
- These bites can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
- Reheat leftovers in the oven to maintain crispness.
