Description

This Honey Garlic Meatballs recipe features tender pre-cooked beef and pork meatballs glazed in a rich, flavorful honey garlic sauce. Perfectly balanced with soy sauce, garlic, and a hint of chili flakes, these meatballs are served hot alongside steamed rice and fresh vegetables for a comforting and satisfying meal ready in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • 400 grams baked or cooked meatballs (beef and pork mix)

Sauce

  • ½ cup beef or chicken stock
  • 1 Tablespoon corn flour (cornstarch)
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (or gluten-free Tamari)
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice (or rice vinegar)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

To Serve

  • Steamed rice
  • Steamed vegetables (broccoli, broccolini, pak choy, capsicum, carrots)
  • Sliced green onions (optional garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the beef or chicken stock and corn flour until smooth to avoid lumps. Then add honey, soy sauce, lemon juice, minced garlic, and chili flakes if using. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined. Taste the sauce and optionally add a little brown sugar to balance sweetness if needed.
  2. Heat the meatballs: Place the pre-cooked or baked meatballs in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook, turning occasionally, to warm the meatballs evenly throughout, ensuring they don’t stick to the pan or burn.
  3. Combine with sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the warmed meatballs in the skillet. Gently toss or stir to coat all the meatballs evenly with the sauce. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and the flavors to meld together. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.
  4. Serve: Serve the glazed meatballs hot alongside steamed rice and a selection of steamed vegetables like broccoli, broccolini, pak choy, capsicum, and carrots. Spoon any extra sauce over the rice and vegetables for extra flavor. Optionally, garnish with sliced green onions or a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • You can use store-bought pre-cooked meatballs to save time.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, increase the corn flour slightly, but whisk well to avoid lumps.
  • Adjust the chili flakes to your preferred spice level or omit if you want a milder dish.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with gluten-free Tamari.
  • The lemon juice can be substituted with rice vinegar for a different acidic flavor profile.
  • Adding a pinch of brown sugar helps balance the savory and sweet flavors of the sauce.
