Description

A vibrant and flavorful Herby Lemon Garlic Steak and Rice recipe featuring tender, marinated flank or sirloin steak seared to perfection and served over buttery, parsley-infused rice. This Mediterranean-inspired main course is quick to prepare, packed with fresh herbs and zesty lemon, making it an ideal weeknight dinner that’s both satisfying and gluten-free.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak Marinade

  • 1 ½ pounds flank or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Rice and Garnish

  • 2 cups cooked rice (white, brown, or jasmine)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Optional: extra lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak: In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced steak with olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, minced garlic, oregano, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Toss everything well to coat the steak evenly. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour in the refrigerator for deeper flavor infusion.
  2. Sear the Steak: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add the marinated steak in a single layer, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until the steak is browned and cooked to your preferred level of doneness. Once cooked, remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Herby Rice: In a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the cooked rice and stir continuously to warm it through evenly. Mix in the chopped fresh parsley and adjust seasoning with a pinch of salt if desired to enhance the flavor.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Serve the seared steak slices over a bed of the warm herby rice. Garnish the dish with extra lemon wedges or additional fresh parsley for a bright, fresh finish. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • For extra smoky flavor, grill the steak instead of pan-searing.
  • Add sautéed spinach or steamed vegetables on the side for a complete, balanced meal.
  • Use jasmine or brown rice depending on your texture preference.
