Ingredients
Scale
Chocolate Peanut Butter Coating
- ¼ cup salted butter
- ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Snack Base
- 9 cups rice Chex cereal
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
Halloween Candy Mix-Ins
- 1 cup candy corn
- ½ cup candy corn pumpkins
- ½ cup Reese’s peanut butter mini pumpkins
- 1 cup Reese’s Pieces
Instructions
- Prepare the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mixture: In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the salted butter, creamy peanut butter, and milk chocolate chips. Microwave for 45 seconds, then stir thoroughly. Continue microwaving for an additional 20 seconds or until completely melted. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined and smooth.
- Coat the Cereal: Place the rice Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently stir to evenly coat every piece without crushing the cereal.
- Dust with Powdered Sugar: Transfer half of the coated cereal mixture into a large gallon-sized Ziplock bag. Add half of the powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake well to coat the cereal thoroughly. Pour the coated cereal into a large bowl. Repeat this process with the remaining cereal and powdered sugar to ensure every piece is sweetly dusted.
- Add Halloween Candies: Gently fold in the candy corn, candy corn pumpkins, Reese’s peanut butter mini pumpkins, and Reese’s Pieces into the powdered sugar-coated cereal mixture. Ensure even distribution of all candies throughout the muddy buddies.
- Set and Serve: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the muddy buddies out in a single layer. Let them rest for about 30 minutes to allow the coating to set before serving. Enjoy your festive Halloween treat!
Notes
- For best coating, make sure to gently fold the cereal when mixing to avoid breaking the pieces.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain crispiness.
- You can substitute peanut butter with almond or sunflower butter for a different flavor or allergy-friendly option.
- Optional: Add Halloween-themed sprinkles for extra decorative flair.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of candy mix-ins based on personal preference or allergen considerations.
