Description

A comforting and hearty meal featuring savory ground beef cooked in a rich brown gravy, served over creamy mashed potatoes. Perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Gravy

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 2 cups water

Mashed Potatoes

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it is fully browned, breaking it apart with a spatula for even cooking.
  2. Sauté Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onions are softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Gravy: Mix the brown gravy packet with 2 cups of water according to the package instructions. Pour this gravy mixture over the cooked beef, onion, and garlic in the skillet.
  4. Simmer the Gravy and Beef: Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens and flavors meld together.
  5. Boil the Potatoes: Meanwhile, place the peeled and diced potatoes into a pot of boiling salted water. Cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  6. Mash the Potatoes: Drain the cooked potatoes and mash them with butter, milk, and salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the creaminess by adding more milk if desired.
  7. Serve: Plate the creamy mashed potatoes and top generously with the ground beef and gravy mixture for a comforting and filling meal.

Notes

  • Use russet potatoes for the best mashed potato texture.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or herbs like thyme to the beef while cooking.
  • If you prefer a thicker gravy, reduce the water or simmer longer.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed green beans or a crisp side salad.
