Ingredients
Scale
For the Shrimp:
- 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Juice of ½ lime
For the Creamy Avocado Sauce:
- 1 ripe avocado
- ¼ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- Salt to taste
For Assembly:
- 6 small tostada shells
- 1 cup shredded lettuce or cabbage
- ½ cup diced tomatoes
- ¼ cup crumbled queso fresco or cotija cheese
- Chopped cilantro (for garnish)
- Lime wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- Marinate the Shrimp: In a bowl, toss the peeled and deveined shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and lime juice. Allow the shrimp to marinate for 10 to 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Grill the Shrimp: Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Place the shrimp on the grill and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque, indicating they are fully cooked. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the Creamy Avocado Sauce: In a food processor or blender, combine the ripe avocado, sour cream or Greek yogurt, lime juice, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the Tostadas: Spread a generous layer of the creamy avocado sauce onto each tostada shell. Top with shredded lettuce or cabbage, then arrange the grilled shrimp over it. Add diced tomatoes and sprinkle crumbled queso fresco or cotija cheese on top. Garnish with chopped cilantro.
- Serve: Serve the assembled tostadas immediately with lime wedges on the side for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
Notes
- You can use pre-cooked shrimp to save time; toss them with the spices and warm slightly before assembling.
- For an added kick, incorporate sliced jalapeños or drizzle with your favorite hot sauce.
