Shrimp and Seasonings
- 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
For Sautéing and Flavor
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 lemon (zested and juiced)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
Instructions
- Heat the Oil and Garlic: Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but avoid browning to keep the garlic flavor fresh and bright.
- Cook the Shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on one side until the shrimp start turning pink and opaque.
- Flip and Finish Cooking: Flip the shrimp and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until fully cooked through and just pink inside.
- Add Lemon and Finish: Pour in the lemon juice and sprinkle the lemon zest over the shrimp, stirring well to coat evenly and infuse the bright citrus flavor.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat, sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the shrimp, and serve immediately. This dish goes wonderfully with crusty bread, rice, or your favorite vegetables.
Notes
- For a creamier version, add a splash of heavy cream or a pat of butter near the end of cooking.
- Swap parsley with fresh cilantro or basil to change the herbal flavor profile.
- Add a lemon wedge on the side for extra lemon juice at the table.
- This dish pairs beautifully with a light white wine or a crisp fresh salad.
