Description

These Garlic Herb Breadsticks are soft, flavorful, and perfect as a side dish or appetizer. Made with a simple yeast dough brushed with garlic herb butter and baked to golden perfection, they bring a delicious homemade touch to any meal. Optional Parmesan cheese adds a savory finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for brushing)

Garlic Herb Butter

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs or parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (for topping)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating that the yeast is active.
  2. Make dough: Stir in the all-purpose flour, salt, and olive oil into the yeast mixture. Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer for 6–8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. First rise: Cover the bowl and place it in a warm spot. Let the dough rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat oven & prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  5. Shape breadsticks: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope shape and place them spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Second rise: Cover the shaped breadsticks loosely and let them rise for 20 minutes until slightly puffed.
  7. Prepare garlic herb butter: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with minced garlic, dried Italian herbs (or parsley), garlic powder, and salt to create a flavorful brushing mixture.
  8. Brush & bake: Generously brush each breadstick with the garlic herb butter mixture. Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Finish & serve: Immediately after baking, brush the breadsticks with more garlic herb butter. If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top. Serve warm for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For cheesy breadsticks, sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top before baking.
  • Leftover breadsticks can be reheated in the oven at 350°F for a few minutes to restore crispness.
