Description

Funnel Cake Bites are a fun and delicious twist on the classic fairground treat. These mini deep-fried cakes are golden and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and dusted generously with powdered sugar. Perfect for parties or a sweet snack, they pair wonderfully with chocolate sauce, caramel, or fruit jam for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying and Serving

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then whisk in the milk and vanilla extract. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, whisking continuously until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  2. Heat the oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the temperature evenly throughout frying.
  3. Fry the bites: Using a small cookie scoop or tablespoon, carefully drop small portions of batter into the hot oil. Fry a few bites at a time to avoid overcrowding. Cook each side for 1 to 2 minutes until the bites turn golden brown and puff up nicely.
  4. Drain excess oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried bites from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels. This will absorb any excess oil to keep them crispy and less greasy.
  5. Serve warm: While still warm, dust the funnel cake bites generously with powdered sugar. Serve immediately with optional dipping sauces such as chocolate sauce, caramel, or fruit jam.

Notes

  • You can serve these with chocolate sauce, caramel, or fruit jam for dipping to add extra flavor.
  • Maintain a consistent oil temperature to ensure even frying and prevent the bites from becoming greasy or undercooked.
  • Fry in small batches to avoid lowering the oil temperature.
  • Allow the bites to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar to prevent melting.
