Description

These Easy Churro Bites are a delightful bite-sized twist on the classic churro, featuring a crispy fried exterior coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect as a sweet snack or dessert, they’re simple to make from scratch and ready in just 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Churro Dough

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying and Coating

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil until the butter melts completely.
  2. Make the dough ball: Reduce heat to low and add the flour all at once, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a smooth ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Cool the dough: Remove from heat and allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes to prevent cooking the egg in the next step.
  4. Incorporate egg and vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the dough and mix well until the dough becomes smooth, thick, and glossy.
  5. Heat the oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or pot to approximately 350°F (175°C), ensuring it is hot enough for frying but not smoking.
  6. Pipe and fry churro bites: Transfer the dough to a piping bag or a plastic bag with the corner cut off. Carefully pipe small bite-sized pieces of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting with scissors as needed to form small rounds.
  7. Fry until golden: Fry the churro bites for about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even browning and crisping.
  8. Drain excess oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the churro bites and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  9. Coat with cinnamon sugar: In a bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Toss the warm churro bites in this mixture until fully coated.
  10. Serve warm: Enjoy the churro bites immediately while warm for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Maintain the oil temperature around 350°F to ensure churro bites cook evenly and become crispy without absorbing too much oil.
  • For dipping options, serve churro bites with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or dulce de leche for an extra touch.
  • If you prefer a healthier alternative, you can bake the churro bites by piping the dough onto a baking sheet and baking at 400°F for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
