Description

These Easy Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes are a classic side dish that’s perfect for any occasion. Layers of thinly sliced potatoes are baked in a creamy, cheesy sauce until golden and bubbly. This recipe is simple to make and always a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)

Cheese Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Garnish:

  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the Cheese Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in milk and cook until thickened. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and mix in cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until smooth.
  3. Layer Potatoes and Cheese Sauce: Place half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the cheese sauce over them. Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and potatoes are tender.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with parsley before serving if desired.
