Ingredients
Scale
Mushrooms and Coating
- 1 lb fresh button mushrooms (or any preferred variety), cleaned and stems removed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Cool Ranch Dip
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp ranch seasoning mix (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp fresh dill, chopped (optional, for added flavor)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, for extra tang)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the fresh button mushrooms and remove the stems to prepare them for coating.
- Set Up the Dredging Station: In one shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. In a second bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
- Bread the Mushrooms: Coat each mushroom first in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it is fully covered. Next, dip the flour-coated mushroom into the beaten eggs, letting any excess drip off. Then, coat the mushroom in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere. Repeat for all mushrooms.
- Fry the Mushrooms: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Working in batches, carefully fry the breaded mushrooms for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crisp on all sides. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Make the Cool Ranch Dip: In a bowl, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh dill (if using). Add lemon juice for a tangy kick if desired. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine.
- Serve: Arrange the crispy fried mushrooms on a serving plate alongside the cool ranch dip for dipping. Enjoy warm as an appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to avoid greasy mushrooms.
- Fresh dill and lemon juice in the dip are optional but add great flavor.
- Drain the fried mushrooms well to keep them crispy.
- This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings.
