Description

Enjoy crispy fried mushrooms coated in seasoned flour and panko breadcrumbs, served alongside a cool and creamy ranch dip. This appetizer is perfect for snacking or serving at parties, delivering a satisfying crunch with a flavorful dip.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms and Coating

  • 1 lb fresh button mushrooms (or any preferred variety), cleaned and stems removed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Cool Ranch Dip

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ranch seasoning mix (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp fresh dill, chopped (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, for extra tang)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the fresh button mushrooms and remove the stems to prepare them for coating.
  2. Set Up the Dredging Station: In one shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. In a second bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Bread the Mushrooms: Coat each mushroom first in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it is fully covered. Next, dip the flour-coated mushroom into the beaten eggs, letting any excess drip off. Then, coat the mushroom in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere. Repeat for all mushrooms.
  4. Fry the Mushrooms: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Working in batches, carefully fry the breaded mushrooms for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crisp on all sides. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. Make the Cool Ranch Dip: In a bowl, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh dill (if using). Add lemon juice for a tangy kick if desired. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine.
  6. Serve: Arrange the crispy fried mushrooms on a serving plate alongside the cool ranch dip for dipping. Enjoy warm as an appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to avoid greasy mushrooms.
  • Fresh dill and lemon juice in the dip are optional but add great flavor.
  • Drain the fried mushrooms well to keep them crispy.
  • This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings.
