Ingredients
Scale
Bread:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup Christmas-colored sprinkles (jimmies recommended)
Glaze (optional):
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Extra sprinkles for topping
Instructions
- Prepare Oven and Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer or whisk until the mixture is light, fluffy, and pale in color.
- Add Eggs and Wet Ingredients: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition to ensure they are fully incorporated. Then stir in the sour cream (or Greek yogurt), milk, and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and homogeneous.
- Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently and just until combined to avoid overmixing the batter.
- Fold in Sprinkles: Carefully fold in the Christmas-colored sprinkles (jimmies) to distribute them evenly without breaking them or causing color bleeding.
- Pour Batter into Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula for even baking.
- Bake the Bread: Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
- Cool the Bread: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely, preventing sogginess.
- Prepare Optional Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar with 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk and vanilla extract until smooth and pourable.
- Glaze and Decorate: Drizzle the glaze over the completely cooled bread and top with extra Christmas sprinkles for a festive finish.
Notes
- Use jimmies sprinkles rather than nonpareils to avoid color bleeding during baking.
- This festive loaf makes a wonderful holiday gift or a cheerful breakfast treat.
- Store the bread tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
