Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 8 egg roll wrappers
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
- 1 egg (for sealing)
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Optional Fillings
- ½ cup strawberry, raspberry, or blueberry jam
- Chocolate chips
Instructions
- Prepare the Cheesecake Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until the mixture is smooth and creamy, creating the base for your filling.
- Assemble the Egg Rolls: Lay one egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface with a corner pointing toward you. Spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of the cheesecake filling into the center of the wrapper. If desired, add 1 teaspoon of your preferred jam or a few chocolate chips on top of the filling.
- Fold and Seal: Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling, then fold the sides inward, and roll the wrapper tightly to enclose the filling. Brush the top edge with the beaten egg to seal securely. Repeat this process with all remaining wrappers and filling.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat enough oil to submerge the egg rolls to 350°F (175°C), ensuring the oil is hot enough to crisp the wrappers properly.
- Fry the Egg Rolls: Carefully place the egg rolls in the hot oil in batches, frying for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until each egg roll is evenly golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the fried egg rolls and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Dust them generously with powdered sugar and serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.
Notes
- For make-ahead convenience, assemble the egg rolls and freeze them before frying.
- You can bake the egg rolls at 400°F for 12–15 minutes as a lower-fat alternative.
- Alternatively, air fry the egg rolls at 375°F for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking.
- Serve with fruit compote, caramel sauce, or chocolate sauce for dipping to enhance the dessert experience.
