- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Potatoes
- 2-3 medium potatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for potatoes)
Beef
- 500 grams lean beef mince/ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking beef)
- Half of the spice mix (reserved from above for beef)
Other Ingredients
- Lettuce (shredded)
- Cheese (dairy-free or regular, as preferred)
- Pickle slices
Burger Sauce
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
- 1 teaspoon pickle juice (from the jar of pickles)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
Instructions
- Prepare the spice mix: In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano or mixed herbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside for seasoning the potatoes and beef.
- Prep potatoes: Wash the potatoes thoroughly and cut them into chip-sized pieces. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture which helps to make them crispy when cooked.
- Season and cook potatoes: Place the potato chips in a large mixing bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and half of the prepared spice mix. Toss thoroughly to coat the potatoes evenly. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on a baking tray. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 30 to 40 minutes until they turn golden and crispy. Alternatively, air fry the potatoes for about 20 minutes until crisp.
- Cook the beef: While the potatoes are cooking, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Once the beef browns, sprinkle in the remaining half of the spice mix. Continue cooking until the beef darkens and any extra moisture evaporates for a well-seasoned mince.
- Make the burger sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Stir well, taste, and adjust seasoning if needed to achieve a balanced tangy flavor.
- Assemble the bowls: Divide the cooked crispy potatoes among four serving bowls. Fill the remaining space in each bowl with shredded lettuce. Top with the cooked beef, cheese slices or shreds, and pickle slices. Drizzle the prepared burger sauce over the top and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can bake the potatoes or air fry them for a crisp texture; air frying is quicker.
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease during cooking.
- Cheese can be substituted with dairy-free alternatives for lactose intolerance or vegan preferences.
- Adjust spice levels in the seasoning mix based on your taste preference.
- The sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for enhanced flavor melding.
