Description

Delight in these Blueberry Cheesecake Swirl Rolls, a perfect blend of sweet cream cheese and fresh blueberry filling swirled into soft, fluffy dough. Ideal for breakfast or dessert, these rolls offer a comforting homemade treat with a luscious glaze finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Cheesecake Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Blueberry Filling

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg, then mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. First proofing: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Make the blueberry filling: While the dough rises, cook blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a small saucepan over medium heat until bubbly. Stir in cornstarch and cook for 1 more minute until thickened. Let cool completely.
  4. Prepare cheesecake filling: In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Shape the rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle about 10×14 inches. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough, then dollop and gently swirl the cooled blueberry mixture on top.
  6. Roll and slice: Roll up the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 9 even rolls. Place them in a greased 9×9-inch baking dish.
  7. Second proofing: Cover and let the rolls rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Glaze and serve: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over warm rolls before serving for added sweetness and shine.

Notes

  • These rolls can be prepared the night before and baked the next morning for fresh warm rolls at breakfast.
  • Use a serrated knife or unflavored dental floss to slice the rolls cleanly without squashing them.
  • Allow the blueberry filling to cool completely before spreading to avoid soggy dough.
