Description

Bang Bang Chicken Skewers offer a delightful combination of crispy, tender chicken pieces coated in a flavorful blend of spices and cornstarch, grilled to perfection and served with a creamy, sweet, and spicy Bang Bang sauce. Perfect as an appetizer or a main dish, these skewers deliver vibrant flavors with a simple preparation.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Coating

  • 500 grams (1 lb) chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 60 grams (1/2 cup) cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Sauce and Garnish

  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) sweet chili sauce
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) mayonnaise
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces with cornstarch, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to ensure each piece is evenly coated and let it marinate for 15-20 minutes to absorb the flavors and develop a crispy coating when cooked.
  2. Prepare the skewers: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning during cooking. Metal skewers can be used as is. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers, distributing evenly.
  3. Cook the skewers: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Grill the skewers for 10-12 minutes, turning halfway to cook evenly and achieve a slight char. Alternatively, bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, flipping once to ensure thorough cooking and a crispy exterior.
  4. Make the Bang Bang sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the sweet chili sauce and mayonnaise until smooth and creamy. This sauce will add the signature sweet and spicy flavor characteristic of Bang Bang dishes.
  5. Serve: Drizzle the Bang Bang sauce over the cooked chicken skewers or serve it on the side as a dip. Garnish with finely sliced green onions to add a fresh and colorful touch before serving.

Notes

  • Soaking wooden skewers prevents them from burning on the grill or in the oven.
  • You can adjust the level of spiciness by adding more or less sweet chili sauce or mixing in some sriracha.
  • Ensure chicken pieces are evenly sized for uniform cooking.
  • Use metal skewers if you prefer not to soak skewers or want better heat conduction.
  • The cornstarch coating helps create a crispy exterior when cooked on the grill or baked.
  • Leftover skewers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven for best texture.
