Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
Coating
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Serving
- Powdered sugar or icing for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it is hot and ready for the cinnamon twists.
- Mix the Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract if you choose to use it. This mixture will add flavor and sweetness to the pastry.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Brush the entire surface evenly with melted butter, creating a base for the cinnamon sugar to stick.
- Sprinkle Cinnamon Sugar: Evenly distribute the cinnamon sugar mixture over the buttered puff pastry. Gently press the sugar into the dough to help it adhere without tearing the pastry.
- Cut and Twist: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the puff pastry into 1-inch wide strips. Take each strip and gently twist it several times to create the characteristic spiral shape.
- Arrange in the Air Fryer Basket: Place the twisted strips in the air fryer basket, making sure to leave enough space between them for air circulation. You may need to cook in batches depending on your air fryer’s size.
- Air Fry the Twists: Cook the twists for 7 to 9 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the twists to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust them with powdered sugar or drizzle with icing for extra sweetness.
Notes
- These cinnamon twists are best served warm for optimal flakiness and flavor.
- For added indulgence, try dipping them in cream cheese frosting or a vanilla glaze.
- You can prepare the twists ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator; simply air fry just before serving to maintain crispness.
